HOW TO CHOOSE A CAT LITTER ?

It is very important to choose a litter that suits your cat. Indeed, if your cat does not appreciate its litter, it can make its needs in inappropriate places ... Among the wide choice which is offered to you, it is not easy to find yourself there! We suggest you to know more about the different types of litters and bins to help you in your choice.

What are the different types of bedding?

The mineral litter

Mineral litter is composed of minerals of natural origin and more particularly:

Clay Litter: they are composed of small stones of clay. They are very absorbent but they are dusty. Odor control varies according to litter. They may be agglomerating or non-agglomerating.
Silica: the silica litter is in the form of translucent grains sometimes associated with colored grains. It has a very strong absorbing power and good odor control.

Plant litters

Vegetable litters are made up of natural products of plant origin (wood, hemp, corn cob, etc ...) and are therefore biodegradable and ecological.

Their main advantage is that they are not very dusty. Absorption and odor control varies with bedding. They may be agglomerating or non-agglomerating.

"Health" litter

These litters make it possible to detect certain urinary abnormalities early by a change in color of the latter. It is however only an indicator and it is to put in relation with the state of health of your cat (its behavior, its appetite, etc ...).

Attention: some bedding can be scented. They mask odors but they can hinder some cats. They are also to be avoided for respiratoryly sensitive cats.

How to choose the litter of her cat?

First of all, the litter must be suitable for your cat. A litter that is not to the taste of your pet can be responsible for urinary uncleaning. The choice of litter varies from one animal to another: some cats prefer mineral litters, others litter plants, etc ...

If your cat is sensitive on the respiratory tract, then it is best to choose a litter that is not dusty and unflavoured.

It is also important that the litter is easy to maintain for you and that the cost is right for you.

If litter is not suitable, you can try another type of litter. Once you have found the ideal litter for you and your cat, there is no need to change! If you still want to change litter, we recommend that you keep the previous litter box in a tank during the tests so that your cat is not unduly disturbed and to make sure that he is using the new bedding.

The litter layer should be thick enough for your cat to cover its stools.

Which litter box to choose?

Litter boxes are distinguished from toilets, which are covered by a lid and a flap. Some cats prefer to be confined when they are in need and are comfortable in the washrooms. On the contrary, other cats are afraid to return, but most often this is due to the flap. Generally, it is sometimes enough to remove the flap so that the cat is no longer afraid.

It is very important to install one litter more than the number of cats. For example, if you have 2 cats, it is advisable to install at least 3 litters.

Bedding should be cleaned thoroughly every week and stools and agglomerates should be removed daily. There are bags that can be placed at the bottom of the litter box to facilitate cleaning of the litter box.

In the toilets, it is possible to install the Magic Blue product to reduce odors.

Finally, if you do not want more litter boxes, it is possible to teach your cat to do his toilet needs with the Litter Kwitter kit!

Good to know: even if your cat is outdoors, it is advisable to leave litter available in the house.
