The History of Dogs

How domestic dog came to be in existence is not clear. Some scientists still don’t believe that dogs came to be in existence through the domestication of wolf up to 10,000 to 15,000 years ago.

You can’t talk about the history of dogs and not talk about the extant gray wolves as it is the closest living relative of dog.

Confusion occurs as dogs and this modern day old wolves are not a look alike from the old age wolves, which were first domesticated.

2007 scientist in Europe conduct a maternal mDNA sequence study from dogs and wolves, which proves a strong relationship between dogs and the wolves of Europe.

Dogs were selected out of all other domestics’ species because of their behaviours. Scientist shows there were only 11 fixed genes that showed variation between wolves and dogs.  These gene variations were unlikely to have been the result of natural evolution, and indicate selection on both porphology domestication of genes that affect the adrenaline and noranalinebiosnthesis pathway.

There are some behavioural changes in dogs when compared to wolves; this is due to changes on their pathway and their role in emotional process and the fight.

Dogs generally show reduced fear and aggression compared to what we found in wolves. Some of these genes have been associated with aggression in some dog breeds, indicating their importance in both the initial domestication and then later in breed formation.

Dogs are naturally selected because of their special attribute of being able to infer name of object and human have been able to let them learn names of about 1,000 objects and more.  Dogs understand the human pointing gesture.
